Hydraulic drives: New nominal sizes and new regulating concepts

13-Dec-2010

Modular design enables a range of variants using series components

Linde Hydraulics used the financial crisis in 2008–2009 to develop new variants of the modular system for hydraulic drive systems — such as the HPR 280 regulating pump — as well as new regulators for mobile and stationary hydraulic drives.

Many drive system providers are faced with the decision as to whether to go for cost-reducing standardisation or customer-friendly differentiation of their product range. Opting for standardisation will save costs but will also limit the variety of products, whereas expanding your product range means you can offer each customer exactly what they are looking for, albeit with higher costs and longer delivery times.

Linde Hydraulics has found a way to continually expand its range of high-quality drive solutions while at the same time standardising its portfolio. It has done this by consistently modularising its range, using the period during the financial crisis to expand this modular system further. The fruits of its labour are now available — for example, the HPR 280 regulating pump in the HPR-02 pump series.

"Large" variable displacement pump for open circuits also available for industrial applications

The pumps in HPR-02 series feature a load sensing regulator for optimum power exploitation in the LSC system. The pump is very compact, its one-piece housing is extremely rigid and all components are designed for a long service life with minimum maintenance. The optional SPU silencer reduces pressure pulsations, thereby making the open-loop pump as quiet as a pump in a closed-loop circuit.

The series, which was previously available in six sizes with displacements of 55 to 210 cm3/rev, now also includes an even larger version with 280 cm3/rev. And just like the HPR 105, the HPR 280 is also available as an industrial model, which has several different design features compared with the mobile variant. For example, the shaft connection uses a key shaft system, centering is performed to ISO 3019-2 standard and the housing features vent holes so as to enable vertical installation of the pump.

New regulator for stationary hydraulics

Linde Hydraulics has also developed a new regulator specifically for stationary applications. The ETP regulator features electro-proportional displacement control with hyperbolic power limitation and pressure limiter, enabling precise electrical setting of the volume flow. The superimposed hydraulic-mechanical power limiter protects the main engine against overloading, while the superimposed hydraulic-proportional pressure limiter protects the hydraulic system. These characteristics make the new regulating system, which is available for sizes 105, 135, 210 and 280, suitable for the drive systems in concrete pumps and industrial presses, for example. An alternative for this type of stationary application is the TL2 load sensing regulator, which also provides hyperbolic power limitation.

Mobile hydraulics innovations

These new products mean that Linde Hydraulics can tap further into the stationary hydraulics market — and with good reason: many of the features and technologies common in mobile hydraulics — and with which Linde Hydraulics has extensive experience — are also becoming increasingly in demand in challenging areas of machine construction, such as press construction. The company has of course also developed some new products for the mobile hydraulics sector. The HPR 280, for example, with centering in accordance with ISO 3019-1 and a toothed-shaft version, is also suitable for mobile load sensing applications.

This means that manufacturers of mobile machines who currently use sizes 55 to 210, can now enjoy the benefits of the Linde Synchron Control System even in higher power classes: improved efficiency thanks to fuel economy and maximum productivity thanks to precisely reproducible controllability and compensation for load impacts.

The new LEP controller — a load sensing regulator with electro-proportional stroke limitation and hydraulic pressure limitation — is available for such applications. This enables demand-oriented volume flow regulation and application-specific limiting of the pump displacement. This regulator would typically be used in the challenging and complex hydraulic systems featured in mobile machines, for example, in forestry machines with high-performance saw drives.

Product portfolio expansion
In addition to this new large-displacement regulating pump and the new regulator models, Linde Hydraulics has developed new nominal sizes of individual pump and motor series, thus expanding its product portfolio. This includes the HPR 165D, an open-circuit double pump, and the HPV 165, a closed-circuit variable displacement pump. The HMR 210 and HMR 280 regulating motors expand the product range in open and closed circuits.
